Meet Tutor Lyndsay: Her Counselling Journey and Experience
Following the successful completion of our recent Level 3 Counselling Skills course, we caught up with tutor Lyndsay to find out more about her journey into counselling, her experience as a practitioner and how her real-world expertise inspires and enriches her teaching.
What inspired you to pursue counselling?
I first became curious about counselling while working in a secondary school, where young people would often seek me out for support. This made me question whether advice and solutions were always what people needed, or whether simply being heard could be more powerful.
Curious to learn more, I completed a Level 2 qualification. I quickly became fascinated by the impact of creating a space where people feel understood. After progressing to Level 3, I knew counselling was the path I wanted to follow.
Can you tell us about your experience as a counsellor?
I trained as a person-centred counsellor with RASA Merseyside and have worked across schools, private practice and the charity sector, supporting children, teenagers and adults. In particular, I have a strong interest in supporting neurodivergent clients.

Alongside my core training, I have completed additional study in CBT, EMDR, hypnotherapy and trauma. Furthermore, I am an accredited member of the BACP, a qualified supervisor and co-run a counselling centre. Alongside teaching, I continue to work with clients and provide specialist training for counsellors.
Bringing Real-World Experience into the Classroom
Because I am actively working as a counsellor, I can bring current, anonymised examples into the classroom. As a result, learners can bridge the gap between theory and practice.
In addition, I want learners to develop not only skills and confidence, but also the self-awareness, reflection and ethical thinking needed to become safe and effective practitioners.
How did the group progress?
The group dynamic was really positive throughout the course, with learners embracing their assignments and showing genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for counselling. It was rewarding to see their confidence grow as the programme progressed, with each learner developing their own individual approach to practice and taking the next steps in their counselling journey.
In Three Words, How Would You Describe Learning Counselling?
Challenging. Supportive. Transformative.
