From Redundancy to Confidence: Rachel’s Journey Back to Work!

Rachel recently completed our Level 2 Support Work in Schools and Colleges course after being referred by our partner, Tours Foundation.

After being made redundant from a job she had worked in for nine years, Rachel found herself working from home and feeling very isolated. Rachel has always had a passion for working with children; her house is often full of them, and she regularly volunteers at her son’s school, helping with events such as the Christmas grotto. Working with children has always been Rachel’s dream job.

A friend told Rachel about 3D Training, and she decided to enrol on the Support Work in Schools and Colleges and Safeguarding courses, with plans to progress onto a SEND qualification. Halfway through her training, Rachel saw a job vacancy at a school and, thanks to the confidence she gained from the course, she felt ready to apply. She is now successfully working as a Lunchtime Assistant, with a clear pathway and ambition to move into a classroom-based role.

Before starting the course, Rachel faced some challenges, particularly around childcare and school pick-up and drop-off times. However, the flexible structure of the course meant it worked around her needs, making it possible for her to fully commit. She also experienced car troubles during her studies, but never missed a session due to her determination to succeed.

Completing her qualifications has had a hugely positive impact on Rachel’s life. She is now far more knowledgeable and confident, and her self-esteem has grown significantly. After feeling lonely and disconnected while working from home, returning to a professional learning environment helped her find her voice and feel comfortable being heard in the classroom.

Through the training, Rachel has developed strong communication skills, improved her confidence, and gained a much clearer understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries, and how to support children effectively in a school setting.

Rachel particularly enjoyed the tutor’s teaching style. The tutor was very relatable and brought the learning to life through real-life examples. The work was broken into bite-sized sections, which made it easy to follow, and the engaging delivery made the sessions enjoyable.

Rachel’s long-term goal is to continue developing and, one day, become a teacher in her own right. 3D Training has given her the first real step towards making that dream a reality.

Rachel would definitely recommend 3D Training, describing it as a very welcoming and supportive learning environment.

She would like to thank 3D Training for giving her the opportunity and, most importantly, the confidence to return to work and begin a career that truly makes her happy.
