Li’s Journey Back into Employment!
Li joined the Micah Recruitability Programme, which is delivered in partnership with 3D Training. The programme is designed to support individuals who have been unemployed long-term, helping them to build their skills, boost confidence, and prepare for work.
As part of the programme, participants complete a Level 2 Customer Service in Hospitality qualification delivered by 3D Training.
“Before joining the course, I had been unemployed for some time. I moved to the UK from China 25 years ago and settled in Liverpool, but I found it difficult to secure a job, especially after COVID, when opportunities became even more limited. I lacked experience and didn’t receive much support from the job centre, which made things harder, particularly as I got older. Eventually, the job centre and Households into Work referred me to the Micah Programme, and that’s where everything changed.”
“At the time, I wasn’t doing anything and needed support. I had never done training in the UK before, so I didn’t know what to expect. English is my second language, and I sometimes found it hard to understand handouts and workbooks. But our course tutor Heather was incredibly patient; she would send the materials to me in advance so I could take time to understand them properly before the session. Writing was difficult for me, but being able to take things home and do some homework helped a lot.”
“The course opened my eyes to how customer service works in different cultures and the theory behind it. I had worked in restaurants before, but this gave me a deeper understanding of what makes good service. I also learned a lot about preparing for job interviews, how to present myself, how to dress, and how to answer questions with confidence. These skills were incredibly useful.”
“Since completing the course, I’ve had the chance to volunteer and work in new environments. It’s given me belief in myself and the confidence to try new things. I now know that I can adapt and succeed, even in unfamiliar roles.”
“To anyone thinking about joining the course, I’d say go for it. You’ll learn new skills, meet people, and gain encouragement from others. Even if you have low confidence, the people around you will see your strengths and help you grow. It’s so much better than staying home and feeling stuck.”
Li has been offered an admin role with the Civil Service and is currently awaiting her start date.
